“But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” (Matthew 6:6)

The Deepest Prayer

“When you pray”

…here and now…

My past I place at Your mercy;
My future — I trust in Your will.
In this moment, help me to be:
Fully present, quiet, and still.

“Go to your inner room”

…listen to Him…

Lord, still my noisy heart and mind;
In silence, may I know You’re near.
I leave all of my self behind —
With all my soul, Your Word I hear.

“Close the door”

…surrender completely…

Lord, gather ev’ry faculty,
Which I surrender at Your feet,
Into silent tranquility —
In the soul’s sheer silence, we meet.

“Pray to your Father in secret”

…into intimacy…

Lord, in this solitude we share,
Your Word breathes life within my soul;
Your Presence, pinnacle of prayer:
Ignites and flames like a hot coal.

“And your Father who sees in secret will repay you”

…respond with gratitude…

Lord, thank you for this gift of prayer;
Your kingship in this lowly place:
My beggar soul is but a lair,
Transformed to Your palace by grace!
