The Fast Must Last

"Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, for we are members one of another…No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. (And) be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ." (1)

From Fast To Feast

Fast the senses; feed the spirit:
Lower the eyes to look within;
Ponder the Word as we hear it;
Feel the dew of His peace soak in.

Fast the old mind; feed the new heart:
Let old ideas drift away;
Allow His new-found love impart
His wisdom to discern the way.

Fast from the will; feed trust in God:
Rest completely within His hand;
Trust in oneself is frail and flawed --
"Have confidence" is His command.

Fast the ego; feed compassion:
Entitlement loses its place;
The care of souls becomes passion --
Humble service attracts His grace.

The fast transforms us into feast:
When we lose self, we gain our soul;
As we strive to become the least,
And break old ways, we are made whole.
