Persevere In Prayer
"Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent
in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction, persevere in prayer."
(1)
"…let us rid ourselves of every burden
and sin that clings to us and persevere in
running the race that lies before us while
keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader
and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the
joy that lay before him he endured the cross,
despising its shame, and has taken his seat
at the right of the throne of God. Consider
how he endured such opposition from sinners,
in order that you may not grow weary and
lose heart. In your struggle against sin
you have not yet resisted to the point of
shedding blood." (2)
Persevere!
Accept the cross; pray "Persevere!"
Your strength is greater than the pain.
God is your strength; He is so near
That you will not struggle in vain.
Lift up the cross; pray "Persevere!"
A sacrifice of love is born.
Grief can bear love, strong and sincere;
Hope is first hewn from the forlorn.
Embrace the cross; pray 'Persevere!'
The sacrifice can be your joy.
Lifted with love, strong and sincere,
The cross conquers what could destroy.
For we are called in suffering:
To follow Christ to Calvary;
To bear love with our offering;
And vanquish sin with victory.
