Listen to Him

"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." (1)

With Open Heart

I stand to pray with open hands,
Hoping for consolation;
Petitions steeped with my demands,
Eclipse all adoration.

And yet, with patient love You see
Beyond my limitation;
You sprinkle me incessantly
With grace of inspiration.

I try to catch with my cupped hands,
But most runs through my fingers;
On my soul's parched soil it lands
Refreshing as it lingers.

You show me that You know my heart:
Its hopes and aspirations;
My endless words keep us apart --
A one-way conversation.

O Lord, teach me to hear Your love:
My heart and soul attending;
To fall silent and look above --
Your grace is never-ending!
