The Fall Of Pride

"He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree;" (1)

"For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite. For I will not contend for ever, nor will I always be angry; for from me proceeds the spirit, and I have made the breath of life.'" (2)

The Gift Of Humility

The little bird saw the baggage,
Its ego had amassed with time:
Judgemental pride was its pillage;
Its cold heart counting ev'ry dime.

Imagination blurred the truth.
The ego tainted what it saw:
It sifted like a subtle sleuth;
Its stone-cold soul was razed and raw.

But from these depths he raised his eyes;
He prayed for healing and mercy.
Almighty heard his heart-felt cries,
And offered him humility.

This gift rescues the heart from pride;
It opens eyes to see what's real:
God's compassion is not denied;
Mercy is free to sift and heal.

Now I accept weakness as grace;
God's mercy is not bound by sin.
And when I fall, I find my place:
At Master's feet -- He takes me in!
