Listen to Him
"He was still speaking, when lo, a bright
cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from
the cloud said, 'This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.'"
(1)
"This is why I speak to them in
parables,
because seeing they do not see, and
hearing
they do not hear, nor do they understand.
With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy
of Isaiah which says: 'You shall indeed
hear
but never understand, and you shall
indeed
see but never perceive. For this people's
heart has grown dull, and their ears
are
heavy of hearing, and their eyes they
have
closed, lest they should perceive with
their
eyes, and hear with their ears, and
understand
with their heart, and turn for me to
heal
them.' But blessed are your eyes, for
they
see, and your ears, for they hear.
Truly,
I say to you, many prophets and righteous
men longed to see what you see, and
did not
see it, and to hear what you hear,
and did
not hear it." (2)
With Open Ears
Child of light, open your ear.
Shut out the noise and clamoring;
In your silence, the Lord draws near:
Prepare your heart for listening.
Let the Lord still your tossing storm;
Give Him your worries, doubts, and
fears.
Your heart will be made still and warm;
Prepared to ponder what it hears.
The Word comes home when we hear it;
The mustard seed of faith takes root.
The Lord our God pours His Spirit
On those who hear -- they'll bear His
fruit.
The Lord stands knocking at the door
Of your heart -- will you hear the
knock?
And open up as ne'er before?
A closed ear is the heart's padlock.
O Lord, open my heart and ear,
To listen as the Word draws near.
