A Simpler Mind
"O the depth of the riches and wisdom
and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are
his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
'For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been his counselor?' For from
him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be glory for ever. Amen." 1
Sandcastles Of The Mind
My theories of God seemed well-planned,
But they're just sandcastles I've wrought:
My thoughts, disparate as beach sand,
Seemed held by grace but they were
And then I met Your mystery;
Like waves crashing on my mind's shore:
Overwhelming ev'ry theory --
When You recede, they are no more.
Your Love extends eternally:
Past horizons of time and space;
It ebbs and flows in mystery --
Washing o'er us with waves of grace.
My new mind is a pristine beach;
It's shaped with ev'ry wave of grace.
Your Mystery is now in reach:
To be formed in Love -- that's my place!
O Lord, wash my theories away;
A simpler mind will know Your way!
