Seeking Signs and Wonders
"And the Pharisees and Sadducees came,
and to test him they asked him to show them
a sign from heaven. He answered them, 'When
it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair
weather; for the sky is red.' And in the
morning, 'It will be stormy today, for the
sky is red and threatening.' You know how
to interpret the appearance of the sky, but
you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
An evil and adulterous generation seeks for
a sign, but no sign shall be given to it
except the sign of Jonah.' So he left them
and departed." 1
"And Jesus began to say to them, 'Take
heed that no one leads you astray. Many will
come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and they
will lead many astray. And when you hear
of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed;
this must take place, but the end is not
yet. For nation will rise against nation,
and kingdom against kingdom; there will be
earthquakes in various places, there will
be famines; this is but the beginning of
the birth-pangs." 2
Expectant Eyes
The children of Apocalypse
Seek signs and wonders from their Lord:
He'll come to free them from their
crypts;
He'll quell the foe on steed with sword.
The son of a poor carpenter,
Born in a barn; died in disgrace.
Some hoped he was the conqueror:
The one who'd free their Chosen Race.
The Master of the Universe,
Stays hidden in a humble host.
In His kingdom, the last are first:
It is the least who find Him most.
He walks among the poor and weak;
Those who look to Him in their need,
Will find the Bridegroom whom they
seek:
The souls who hunger He will feed.
He stays with us in each moment,
In both the sludge and the sublime.
His kingdom comes in the present:
He's with us 'til the end of time.
Expectant eyes fixed on the sky
Can't see the Lord who walks on by.
