John 3:22-36
St. John the Baptist, a model of humility
before the Lord, calls us to find our place
at the feet of His Majesty, the Son of God.
"I bow low toward your holy temple;
I praise your name for your fidelity and
love. For you have exalted over all your
name and your promise… The Lord is on high,
but cares for the lowly and knows the proud
from afar… The Lord is with me to the end.
Lord, your love endures forever. Never forsake
the work of your hands!" (1)
His Place
He led them down to the Jordan,
They baptized those who came to hear.
John the Baptist, like the best man,
Rejoiced as the Bridegroom drew near.
"I must decrease and He increase",
John testified as to his place;
Humility and joy bring peace,
And open the heart to His grace.
Blessed be those who hear His call:
The One from God speaks with His word;
He's from above and above all;
To Him all things have been conferred.
His Spirit, with abundance, flows;
In humble hearts, His glory shows.
May His Spirit stoke the gift of humility
in our hearts, that we will be readied to
receive the Lord in all His fullness.
