John 9:1-41
Jesus clears the sight of each heart so that
the truth becomes clear and our prejudices
fall away.
"And I will lead the blind in
a way
that they know not, in paths that they
have
not known I will guide them. I will
turn
the darkness before them into light,
the
rough places into level ground. These
are
the things I will do, and I will not
forsake
them." (1)
The Blind Men
"Master, what caused this man's
blindness?
His parents' sin or just his own?"
"He is this way to bear witness,
That through him, God's works might
be shown."
He smeared a mix of spit and clay
On the man's eyes, giving him sight;
Even this healing could not sway
Their disbelief as dark as night.
The Pharisees questioned the man;
He bore witness unto his cure:
"Who could do this? - no sinner
can!
He is from God - now I am sure!"
They recoiled and threw him out.
"Do you believe?" Jesus asked
him;
"I do believe, Lord, without doubt!"
He knelt, with sight no longer dim.
The light of truth sets the blind free;
The blind of heart no longer see.
May the Light of the World enlighten
our
hearts and heal any blindness that
keeps
us from knowing the fullness of Truth.
