Freedom From Desire

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If any one loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides for ever." 1

Attach Me, Lord!

Detach me, Lord, from my desire:
It steals your Goodness from my sight;
It binds my will with worldly wire;
And shrouds my soul from Your pure Light.

Detach me, Lord, from my desire:
Unburden me from all my sin;
Engulf my self in Mercy's fire;
And stoke Your flame of Love within.

Attach me, Lord, to Your Desire:
Direct my heart to do Your Will;
In ev'ry deed, may Love inspire;
In ev'ry heart: Your Love instill.

You empty me to nothingness
To fill me with Your own Being.
You sculpt my heart in the darkness
Transforming without revealing.

Detach me from my futile ways:
Attach Your Love; uplift my gaze!
