The Fire of Merciful Love

"But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. When you pass through the water, I will be with you; in the rivers you shall not drown. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned; the flames shall not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior." 1

Mercy's Flame

My sinful heart's a furnace stoked
Beneath the dwelling of my soul;
It's Living Flame of Love is choked
With each sin -- a new lump of coal.

Merciful Love will purify
This coal will feed its Living Flame.
With each sin it will sanctify;
My heart will never be the same.

In my short time, Mercy will torch
My sin into Its Sanctity.
Without Mercy, Justice would scorch;
Its flames lasting eternally.

I submit to Love's burning flame:
I renounce sin, excuse, and blame.
