The Family of Carmel
"And he replied, 'Who are my mother
and my brethren?' And looking around on those
who sat about him, he said, 'Here are my
mother and my brethren! Whoever does the
will of God is my brother, and sister, and
mother.'" 1
Anthem of Carmel
Our Carmel is a family,
Far bigger than my own;
It spans many a century:
From earth up to His throne.
From St Edith to Elijah,
Our saints have marked the Way;
From our Bible to the Torah,
His Word has been our stay.
We hold the Lord in chastity:
Steadfast as we obey;
He empties us in poverty,
And forms us as we pray.
Our days are short and nights are long,
As we ascend the mount.
Our hearts resound with joyful song:
His Spirit is our fount.
We'll sing for Him eternally;
With Mary, we're the least!
We'll scatter petals lavishly;
Our hearts garnish His feast!
