Why Worry?
Anxiety uproots peace and leaves it to wither
away. Can worries ever be considered necessary?
To let go of worry is to trust that God holds
us and our circumstances firmly in His gentle
hand.
"Now as they went on their way, He entered
a certain village, where a woman named Martha
welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister
named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and
listened to what He was saying. But Martha
was distracted by her many tasks; so she
came to Him and asked, ‘Lord, do you not
care that my sister has left me to do all
the work by myself? Tell her then to help
me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha,
Martha, you are worried and distracted by
many things; there is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part, which will
not be taken away from her." (Luke 10.38-42)
Whirlwind Unravelled
A whirlwind of anxiousness
Stirs up the heart that can't find peace;
A mind beset with restlessness
Is scattered and seldom at ease.
The troubled heart struggles to face
The truth of its reality;
The peace of Christ, in its embrace,
Alters the soul's mentality.
The remnants of past brokenness,
And worries of unknown future,
Dissolve in love's gentle kindness --
In this moment, peace is secure.
Held close in the depths of Christ's peace,
The soul is loved and understood;
Love of neighbor and self increase
As peace uplifts the common good.
Let heaven's dew of peace descend:
"Peace be with you"; "Shalom,
my friend."
"Do not worry about anything, but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God. And
the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in
Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4.6-7)
Lord, dissolve the worries of my mind in
Your peace,
And heal all that causes disturbance within
me,
That Your love may dwell fully in me. Amen.
