Eighth Meditation
(The Way of Perfection, Chapter 15-16)
"The chief priests accused him of many
things. Again Pilate questioned him, 'Have
you no answer? See how many things they accuse
you of.' Jesus gave him no further answer,
so that Pilate was amazed." (1)
Surrender
The humble heart does not protest
Accusations, false though they be;
In silence, she secures her rest,
Trusting His Love will set her free.
The humble heart is indiff'rent
Before both punishment and praise;
She's weak and He's omnipotent --
Only to Him, her eyes she'll raise.
The humble heart surrenders all
Unto her King, with confidence
And holy daring, at His call,
Relying on His providence.
The King treasures the humble heart;
He surrenders Himself in kind,
To dwell with her and not depart --
Love lived in truth yields ties that bind.
To Him, pure hearts surrender:
Their King and strong defender.
May the King of humility be our strength
and defend us in the midst of pride and persecution.
