Foreword
The journey into prayer begins with the desire
to get to know Jesus at a deeper level. "O
God, you are my God -- for you I long!"
(Psalm 63.2) To pray is to get to know Jesus
-- to talk to Him, and to listen to Him.
He is waiting for us to respond to His call
- indeed His merciful love is yearning to
forgive, to heal, and to build us up in love.
Let us begin the journey of discovering the
fullness of prayer in the Catholic tradition.
This booklet is based on section four of
the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the
Word of God, and the writings of the Carmelite
Doctors of the Church. Each section includes
references to the Catechism which you may
wish to explore further. For many of the
sections, there is a poem included to express
the subject in a way which touches the heart.
May the Father bless our encounter with the
merciful love of Jesus as the Holy Spirit
guides us in our discovery of prayer. Amen.
