The Joy Of The Cross

"Oh send out thy light and thy truth; let them lead me, let them bring me to thy holy hill and to thy dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and I will praise thee with the lyre, O God, my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God." (1)

"When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you" (2)

The grumbler sees the shadows fall;
He greets the dawn by facing west.
He sees the writing on the wall --
His lot is worse than all the rest.

The joyful greet each new sunrise:
A glaze of glory in the east;
His eyes are lifted to the skies;
His pastures are a verdant feast.

With gratefulness and gratitude,
In each event, he finds God's hand.
Then joy becomes his attitude,
And life's complete as God has planned.

For Jesus came to bring us joy.
In Him, our joy is made complete.
Without Him, the cross could destroy;
But in His hands, my cross is sweet.

Lord, carry me, as I embrace,
This cross You've custom-made for me;
And hold me firmly in my place --
My joy will well eternally!
