I
I AM the Lord your God;
you shall have no strange gods before
Me
(Exodus 20:2-3)
I, the Lord, am your God, who brought you
out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
You shall not have other gods besides Me. (Exodus 20:2-3)
When the king asked him, "Why
do you
not adore Bel?" Daniel replied,
"Because
I worship not idols made with hands,
but
only the living God who made heaven
and earth
and has dominion over all mankind."
(Daniel 14:5)
On the seventh day the king came to
mourn
for Daniel. As he came to the den and
looked
in, there was Daniel, sitting there!
The
king cried aloud, "You are great,
O
Lord, the God of Daniel, and there
is no
other besides You!" (Daniel 14:40-41)
"Do not fear," Samuel answered
them. "It is true you have committed
all this evil; still, you must not
turn from
the Lord, but must worship Him with
your
whole heart. Do not turn to meaningless
idols
which can neither profit nor save;
they are
nothing." (1 Samuel 12:20)
Who may go up the mountain of the Lord?
Who
can stand in His holy place? The clean
of
hand and pure of heart, who are not
devoted
to idols. (Psalm 24:3-4)
Their idols are silver and gold, the
work
of human hands. They have mouths but
do not
speak, eyes but do not see… Their makers
shall be like them, all who trust in
them.
(Psalm 115:4-5,8)
Those who worship vain idols forsake
their
source of mercy. (Jonah 2:9)
What agreement has the temple of God
with
idols? For we are the temple of the
living
God; as God said: "I will live
with
them and move among them, and I will
be their
God and they shall be My people. (2 Corinthians 6:16)
We are in the One who is true, in His
Son
Jesus Christ. He is the true God and
eternal
life. Children, be on your guard against
idols. (1 John 5:21)
