Remember to keep the sabbath day holy (Exodus 20.8)
Remember to keep holy the sabbath day. Six
days you may labor and do all your work,
but the seventh day is the sabbath of the
Lord, your God. (Exodus 20.8-10)
So God blessed the seventh day and made it
holy, because on it he rested from all the
work he had done in creation. (Genesis 2.3)
All who keep the sabbath free from profanation
and hold to my covenant, them I will bring
to my holy mountain and make joyful in my
house of prayer; their holocausts and sacrifices
will be acceptable on my altar, for my house
shall be called a house of prayer for all
peoples. (Isaiah 56.6b-7)
If you hold back your foot on the sabbath
from following your own pursuits on my holy
day; if you call the sabbath a delight, and
the Lord's holy day honorable; If you honor
it by not following your ways, seeking your
own interests, or speaking with malice--
then you shall delight in the Lord. (Isaiah 58.13-14a)
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to His custom into the
synagogue on the sabbath day. (Luke 4.16)
When the sabbath came He began to teach in
the synagogue, and many who heard Him were
astonished. They said, "Where did this
man get all this? What kind of wisdom has
been given Him? What mighty deeds are wrought
by His hands!" (Mark 6.2)
Then He said to them, "The sabbath was
made for man, not man for the sabbath. That
is why the Son of Man is lord even of the
sabbath." (Mark 2.27-28)
After the sabbath, as the first day of the
week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary came to see the tomb…Then the
angel said to the women in reply, "Do
not be afraid! I know that you are seeking
Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for
He has been raised just as He said. Come
and see the place where He lay." (Matthew 28.1,5,6)
Therefore, a sabbath rest still remains for
the people of God. And whoever enters into
God's rest, rests from his own works as God
did from his. Therefore, let us strive to
enter into that rest, so that no one may
fall after the same example of disobedience.
(Hebrews 4.9-11)
