VI
You shall not commit adultery (Exodus 20.14)
The Lord God said: "It is not good for
the man to be alone. I will make a suitable
partner for him." (Genesis 2:18)
That is why a man leaves his father
and mother
and clings to his wife, and the two
of them
become one body. (Genesis 2:24)
But from the beginning of creation,
'God
made them male and female. For this
reason
a man shall leave his father and mother
(and
be joined to his wife), and the two
shall
become one flesh.' So they are no longer
two but one flesh. Therefore what God
has
joined together, no human being must
separate."
(Mark 10:6-10)
Each one of you should love his wife
as himself,
and the wife should respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:33)
The husband should fulfill his duty
toward
his wife, and likewise the wife toward
her
husband. A wife does not have authority
over
her own body, but rather her husband,
and
similarly a husband does not have authority
over his own body, but rather his wife. (1 Corinthians 7:3-4)
Be subordinate to one another out of
reverence
for Christ. Wives should be subordinate
to
their husbands as to the Lord… Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ loved
the
church and handed himself over for
her. (Ephesians 5:21-22,25)
"You have heard that it was said,
'You
shall not commit adultery.' But I say
to
you, everyone who looks at a woman
with lust
has already committed adultery with
her in
his heart." (Matthew 5.27-28)
"I say to you, whoever divorces
his
wife (unless the marriage is unlawful)
and
marries another commits adultery."
(Matthew 19.9)
Some are incapable of marriage because
they
were born so; some, because they were
made
so by others; some, because they have
renounced
marriage for the sake of the kingdom
of heaven.
Whoever can accept this ought to accept
it." (Matthew 19:12)
At the resurrection they neither marry
nor
are given in marriage but are like
the angels
in heaven. (Matthew 22:30)
Let marriage be honored among all (Hebrews 13:4)
