Our Stories: Roots & Journeys

Teresa Lau

I immigrated to Calgary from Hong Kong in 1995 and watched my parents work tirelessly to build a new life. Their resilience inspired me to support newcomers facing similar challenges. As an immigrant child, I also navigated the balance between family traditions and discovering my own path. With experience in HR and career advising for skilled immigrants, I completed my MA in Counselling Psychology and became a Canadian Certified Counsellor and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Fluent in Cantonese, I use a culturally responsive, client-centered approach to help individuals explore their values, build confidence, and navigate life transitions with clarity and care.As the Founder, I work alongside a skilled counselling partner to provide thoughtful, collaborative support. Together, we help newcomers and communities navigate personal and workplace challenges, build confidence, and create meaningful growth.

Shola Adelakun

As an immigrant, parent, and working professional, I understand the social, cultural, and systemic factors that shape the mental health experiences of individuals from BIPOC communities. Immigration stress, racialized workplace experiences, reproductive health challenges, intergenerational expectations, and the pressure to remain resilient can deeply impact emotional well-being, relationships, and identity. My approach is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, solution-focused, and strengths-based. I work collaboratively with clients experiencing stress, burnout, grief, anxiety, depression, and professional or cultural isolation, supporting them in moving out of survival mode, building sustainable coping strategies, and reconnecting with their values and identity.I am committed to holding space for each person’s story with humility, compassion, and curiosity. Together, we work toward meaningful change that honours your lived experience, culture, and pace.

A Note of Gratitude

Thank you for stopping by. We live, work, and raise our families on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakoda peoples. With deep gratitude, we honour their history and presence, and carry this awareness with us as we walk alongside others on their journeys.
